Medium · 5–7L is two straight lines meeting at a corner, which makes it a great early letter. These letter L coloring pages show a lion, a lamb, a llama, a ladybug and a lobster next to the big letter. There is a lighthouse, a glowing lantern on a shelf, a glass of iced lemonade with a striped straw, and a head of lettuce.
Color the tall line and the short foot of the L, then move to the picture. Ladybugs need red and black dots, lemons are yellow, and the lighthouse looks great with red and white stripes.
Lollipop L. The L sound uses the tip of the tongue. Have your child say "l, l, lion" and notice where their tongue goes.
Long and short. The L has a long line and a short line. Find long and short things in the room and line them up.
Ladybug spots. On the ladybug page, add spots and count them. Try an even number on each wing.
Make lemonade. Color the lemonade page, then squeeze a real lemon together and taste it. Is it sour or sweet?
Yes. The L is made of two straight lines, so it is one of the simplest letters for little hands. Toddlers can color the L with one crayon and the lion or lamb with another.
Lavender, lime, lemon yellow and lilac start with L. Lime green suits the lettuce, and lemon yellow is right for the lemonade. Lavender is a soft purple that works for the lantern glow.

Give each child one L picture and ask them to say a sentence about it, like "The lion is loud." Collect the pages and staple them into a class book called Our L Words.
