September coloring pages: back to school

September means back to school, and these 73 pages are full of it. A smiling school bus, a backpack, crayons, pencils, stacked books and a schoolhouse with a bell appear again and again. Apples are everywhere, along with the first acorns, pumpkins and maple leaves of fall.

School things to color

The biggest group is school supplies with faces: a grinning book, a smiling pencil, a crayon friend and a cheerful bus. There's a schoolhouse with a bell, a backpack with crayons and a sun, a worm peeking out of an apple, and the number nine for the ninth month.

Apples and early fall

The other September theme is the start of fall. Apples sit on books, on top of a bus and under an apple tree. Squirrels hold acorns, a scarecrow stands in his straw hat, maple and oak leaves fall, and the first pumpkins show up. One page has a football and a backpack.

September is the biggest month here. Most pages are Medium or Tricky, with three or four objects to color.

First-week-of-school ideas

  • Color the school bus on the first day and write your child's grade on it.
  • Teachers: hand out the stacked books page as a calm first-day activity.
  • Color the apple pages, then go apple picking or try three kinds of apples.

More fall pictures are on the autumn coloring pages.

Questions parents and teachers ask

Are these good for the first day of school?

Yes. The school bus, backpack and stacked books pages make a calm first-day activity. Teachers can print one for each desk, and kids can write their name across the top.

Why is there a number nine on some pages?

September is the ninth month of the year. Four pages show a big number nine with an apple, a sun, an acorn or a schoolhouse.
